Clarkesmith Supergroup

For the first time in 30 years we’ll be
‘Groovin with Smith & Clarke’:
Mick Clarke guitar/vox (Salt/Freddie King/ British Blues Allstars/Killing
Floor)
Stevie Smith harp/vox and madness (Salt/Ruthless Blues/Joanne
Kelly etc)
Mick Hawksworth bass (Alvin Lee / Fuzzy Duck / Micky Jones’
Flying Pigs / Andromeda))
Chris Sharley drums (Sassafrass/Nicky Moore/Paul Samson)
Its 35 years ago (give or take a few pints) since primo rock/blues guitarist
Mick Clarke walked into a pub in Clapham met Stevie Smith and
was about to change the course of rock & roll as we know it… well
perhaps not, but it was the start of one of London’s greatest unsung rock
& blues bands SALT.

Salt were the best live band on the london scene at the time
and scaled the heights opening for Muddy Waters at the 1977
Reading festival. They also filled the Marquee, Dingwalls & the Music Palace
and even co headined the 100 Club with the Sex Pistols (but that’s another
story)
Sadly the band never got a record deal and at the end of the 70’s they
quit. Clarke headed for LA and Smith joined Bad Manners and
made Top of the Pops! There was a brief refromation but the times had changed.
And now for Pete Feenstra’s birthday bash, they are playng together for
the first time in three generations with the best rhythm section in the land.
Ladies & gentleman we give you the London premier of THE CLARKESMITH
SUPERGROUP + guests.
