Junior Wells

ANNUAL MEMORIAL SHOW
WITH JOHN O'LEARY & SUGARKANE & GUESTS

The Annual Junior Wells Memorial show was established on the 10th anniversary of his death (15/1/98) when we realized the legendary Chicago blues harp player Amos Blackmore aka Junior Wells (Muddy Waters/Buddy Guy/Magic Sam) wasn't being recognized by the international blues community.
Three all star sell out shows later, we think we're well on the way to rectifying that omission.

This year's Memorial gig features John O'Leary's Sugarkane with
John O'Leary on harp,
Roger Inniss on bass
Jools Crudgins keys
Jules Fothergill gtr/vox
Joachim Greve drums

and special all star guests

Alan Glen gtr/harp (Yardbirds)
Marco Pandolfi harp/vox (Italy's rep at the Memphis International Blues Challenge)
Laurie Garnham harp (Yardbirds)
Brendan Hobban gtr/vox (Southside)
Paul Cox vox (only @ Beaverwood)
Claire Free gtr/vox (tbc)
and more to be announced...

He was one bad dude, strutting across the stage like a harp-toting gangster, mesmerizing the crowd with his tough-guy antics and rib-sticking Chicago blues attack. Amazingly, Junior Wells kept at precisely this sort of thing for over 40 years -- he was an active performer from the dawn of the 1950s to his death in Jan 98
