Matthew Ord is a newcomer to the UK blues scene, but is already beginning to build a reputation as an exceptional player and vocalist. At twenty-five Matthew has over ten years gigging experience under his belt, both in bands and as a solo performer. As well as being a fine electric guitarist, when it comes to acoustic blues Matt combines an impressive picking technique with a feel for the blues that's rare at any age and remarkable in such a young player.
Although the delta and Piedmont blues of the 1930s is fundamental to his style, Matthew’s approach to the tunes that he writes and performs owes an equal debt to great British and American folk musicians of the 1960s and 70s like John Fahey and John Renbourn. His live set includes arrangements of classic blues by Willie McTell and Skip James among others alongside traditional Irish tunes and original compositions inspired by the musical traditions of Ireland and America.
Since his decision a year ago to pursue a career as a solo guitarist Matthew has played a number of gigs at well known venues such as The Bull’s Head Jazz Club in Barnes, The National Theatre on London’s South Bank and The Castlebar Blues Festival in Co. Mayo.
"A really good player with a real feel for the blues" - Otis Grand.
"Resurrecting the spirit of Robert Johnson and
with the feel of 60's acoustic pioneers like John Fahey, Matthew Ord is that
rare phenomenon - a young guitarist working a compelling mix of country blues
and acoustic traditions, with verve, panache and total belief - a young man
who's taking the blues back where it belongs." - Pete Feenstra
