A truly world class guitarist, the mercurial Michael Schenker is going back
to his rock roots with a special club appearance at The Boom Boom Club on Thursday
17th January.
One of the few classically-influenced guitar gods, Schenker's white 'Flying-V'
guitar and perfectionist temperament have become as much his trade-marks as
those precision hard rock arrangements, riffing and solos which have remained
a constant throughout his tempestuous career.
In 1971 he formed The Scorpions with his brother Rudolph. After a joint Scorpions/UFO
tour in '73 and in 74 was poached by UFO. Schenker helped to steer the British
group in a more hard rock cutting the "Phenomenon" (1974), "Force
It" (1975), "No Heavy Pettin'" (1976), "lights Out"
(1977), "Obsession" (1978) and 1979's "Strangers In The Night"
albums.
in 1980, after temporarily rejoining the Scorpions once again to record 'Lovedrive',
he made the hugely successful "The Michael Schenker Group" album,
featuring Simon Philips, Gary Barden and Don Airey and since its inception in
1979, taking in such talented musicians as ex-Rainbow men Graham Bonnet and
Cozy Powell (R.I.P.) for the "MSG II" (1981), "One Night At Budokan"
(1982) "Assault Attack" (1983) and "Built To Destroy" (1984)
albums.
1986 teamed up with Robin McAuley from Grand Prix to form the McAuley Schenker
Group, toured with the likes of Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and the Scorpions
and released a series of worldwide hit albums - "Perfect Timing",
(1987), "Save Yourself" (1989) "MSG" and "Unplugged
Live" (1992).
Schenker then played in Contraband with members of Ratt, LA Guns and Vixen before
returning to the UFO fold for a massively successful US tour in 1994 and 1995's
"Walk On Water" album.
His (1995) debut acoustic solo album "Thank You" was followed by MSG's
'Written In The Sand' album in 1996. Michael then teamed up with UFO again and
embarked on an extensive tour in 1997, followed by a celebrated 'G3' tour with
Joe Satriani and Uli Jon Roth at the end of that year. In 1998 he teamed up
with producer Mike Varney in San Francisco to record the last MSG studio album
'The Unforgiven', released in the Spring of 1999. This was followed by the live
release 'The Unforgiven World Tour' (1999) and most recently the instrumental
albums 'Adventures Of The Imagination', and 'Dreams And Expressions' (both 2000).
Michael teamed up once again with UFO last year, to record the extremely well
received studio album 'Covenant',
2001 was spent writing, and recruiting the latest MSG band line-up, to record
'Be Aware Of Scorpions', a truly great album which is all set to take pride
of place in every fan of classic hard rock music the world over.
Also check out 2006’s Michael monumental Schenker/Pattison ‘Summit’
album which includes magnificent covers of classic rock songs from ‘Layla’
to ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’. The follow up ‘Endless
Jam’ shows that despite everything, Michael Schenker still has his chops.
And with this back to basic tour, you will have the one off opportunity to see
one of the Worlds real guitar heroes in an intimate setting at the Boom Boom
Club, don’t dare miss it!
