Paul Lamb & The King Snakes - The Torrington - 4th November 2001

If Blues is currently unfashionable in this country, then Paul Lamb and The Kingsnakes are doing their level best to make it more accessible. More than that, the current show which dazzled an enthusiastic audience is a mix of virtuoso playing, bags of swing and above all a huge amount of fun.

Forget the various awards this band have garnered, and forget for a moment the excellence of Earl Green on vocals and Rod Demick on double bass, let alone Johnny Whithill's steely guitar licks, this band is a cohesive unit, and they are ready to swing.

From the opening notes of Lamb's trademark blues harp through a gamut of shuffles, slow blues, occasional boogie and some smokin low down blues, this outfit had quality stamped all over it.

Vocalist Earl Green is a natural focal point, impressing on "Im A Blues man", and the new album title track "Take Your Time & get It Right.

For the rest, the peerless rhythm section of Messers Demick and Sonny Below offered a rock solid base from which Lamb and Whitehill fired off their respective licks.

Finally a word about the raucous crowd who whooped hollered, and all but brought the house down as they offered a superb band all the support they fully deserved!
