Drivers Gig

Just got back from The Drivers gig at The Torrington. For those of you that don't know North Finchley that well,The Torrington is a pub with a Live venue on the side that promotes mainly blues rock and soft rock gigs and occasionaly has the odd record fair.
Unfortunately I could'nt persuade anybody to leave the warmth of their living rooms tonight(well it was bloody cold out)but I decided to go anyway as its only 10 mins drive away.
I turned up and watched the support act John Vaughan doing his acoustic thing-must admit I always preferred his brother Frankie-But good luck to the guy he seemed to be enjoying himself, although his between song schtick could do with some editing-apparently the last few years he's been in Germany-which could explain it.
I chatted briefly to Lewis before the gig and he explained that the band have been mates of his for 20 years, and you could definitely tell that there was some definite camaraderie there. And that was what the gig was-4 excellent musicians getting there swerve on.Unfortunately the singer had laryngytis but it didnt really matter.Lewis played Lead/Rhythm guitar and sang BV's and they looked to be having a good laugh.
Some dodgy geezer from the duck kept shouting out Marvin Gaye-don't know if it was a little dig at Lewis-but LT played a couple of blinding solos which was worth the price of admission alone.
They played a cover of a Warren Zevon tune called "Lawyers, guns and women"(I think) and the singer wished Warren better(sorry but I think its terminal) and some good old bluesy rock.
Everybody in the crowd seemed to be having a good time and it was nice to see Lewis in a different setting.
Sorry to all those who don't live in London and could'nt get down to see him but there has to be some positives to living here(sky high property prices, congestion charges, shite transport............)

And this was added by Mark Ede:

I was there too (for the second half). Not really Sherrif Jack stuff - more straight ahead blues/rock...not a million miles way from sort of Stonesy type stuff (well sort of). Funny seeing LT playing no jazz chords - indeed lots of power chords and blues licks.

I think LT enjoyed it more than doing his own stuff!

Highlite for me - apart from meeting Lewis's mum again etc - was meeting ex - Edgar Broughton drummer, Steve Broughton. Told him I last saw him over 30 years ago!!! Nice bloke...nutty as a friutcake but very nice!
