The following review appeared in Soundcheck Magazine, a music magazine produced and featuring artists in and around the thriving London live scene. The review was written by Pete Feenstra. The review says:
The
Faith Band - Stormy Monday Club, The Bulls Head, Barnes. It's a tribute to the charisma of Paul Roberts and the sheer musical ability of Baz Warne that The Faith Band were able to pull off a raggle taggle and hugely enjoyable acoustic show in front of a room full of die-hards itching for a Stranglers song.
Roberts has for long seemed a curious choice as frontman for The Stranglers, but as he showed in this intimate setting his on-stage persona ably matches a fine vocal range. Above all the man can write meaningful songs, and has the priceless ability to put them across as if directed personally at everyone in the room. His Stranglers compatriot Baz and Waterboys piano player Richard Naiff added some lovely acoustic runs and accompaniment, with the result that the 90 minute set seemed to go by in a flah.
Much of the material emanated from the band's new limited edition CD, while Baz added an occasional Neil Young classic, before a mid-set cameo from the national steelplaying Papa George. Song titles? I don't remember, because like much of the audience I was half way between the bar and another humourous Roberts anecdote.
These guys could be huge on what passes for the Folk circuit!!!
